LITOCHORO-OLYMPUS
Olympus is the highest mountain in Greece, known worldwide for its mythological context, as at its top (MYTIKAS altitude 2,218 meters) lived the twelve “Olympian” gods. In 1983 it was declared the first National Park in Greece, and later The Greek Ministry of Culture declared Olympus as an archeological and historical site, due to its scattered monuments.
Litochoro is located at the eastern end of Mount Olympus, 23 km from Katerini and 92 km from Thessaloniki. It is a popular city for those who want to start climbing Mount Olympus. It has a mountaineering association with the name “Doxa Litochoro”. To the northwest of Litochoro is the Holy Monastery of Agios Dionysios in Olympus.
